I'm running a BP6 with the latest RU bios.
ATI Rage II PCI 8 mb vid card
256mb ram
3Com 10/100 nic
24X SCSI cd-rom
(2) Fujitsu 10K hdd's attached to an Adaptec 2940uw card.
Now before I had the scsi stuff, I had all IDE stuff. (hdd, cd-rom).
Windows 2000 installed and ran really well. No problems at all.
Then I got these Fujitsu drives, and I had an Adaptec 2940uw controller.
(The controller card will slow down the drives...I know. Low on $ right now)
So the installation of XP seemed to take forever, but it made it through.
However, XP locks up alot. We're talking every 10 or 15 seconds. It locks up for 10 or 15 seconds, then usuable for 10 or 15 seconds. Finally after 5 minutes of this, it locks up and I'll have to soft boot.
Any help would be appreciated...

BP6 w/Win 2000 was OK, With XP lockups...
Just a guess, because I haven´t used XP on my BP6 yet (but maybe i´ll try it soon...)
So... you didn´t run the SCSI setup under W2K, right? Since you don´t use any exotic components, I would suspect a) a problem with the network setup (3com driver or OS-specific) or b) a faulty SCSI card.
But on second thought a faulty SCSI card is unlikely because you managed to install XP. So I´d take out the NIC first and check if it works then. If not, boot XP into safe mode and check again. If it works, I´d think you have a SCSI driver problem.

BP6, RU BIOS, XP SP3, ACPI, 2x366@523(1,95V), Pentalpha HS + 1x 12cm fan @5V, 768MB, Powercolor Geforce 3, RTL8139D NIC, Terratec EWS64L, Samsung M40 80GB (2,5''), LiteOn CDRW
The 3Com card works fine, as I can get on the the net and surf around. I'm actually doing it right now. (Just takes longer)
Forgot to mention. During these lockups, system processes are still running, mostly delegated to system idle processes. AND the mouse works during this time. Only I may click on something or double click on a folder and 10-30 seconds later it works.

Maybe the debugger (Dr. Watson like in W2K?) is running? I remember I´ve had similar symptoms on a W2K machine a long time ago, and it was the debugger´s fault...

Sorry. I can´t remember... maybe in control panel / management / services... I´m not even sure if I simply re-installed Windows.

Hi!
You can configure Dr Watson, when you type in the Run BOX drwatsn32.exe. Do you have static IP's on your nics or do you use DHCP. And what protocol do you use to connect to the inet ???
And can you see any errors in one of the protocols of the Event Viewer(You can find it here: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools ->Event Viewer)???

Well, surfing the net I came across a page that talked about lowering the DMA Transfer Rate in the SCSI Bios to the next lowest setting.
I lowered mine from a default of 40 mbytes/sec to 32 mbytes/sec.
Guess what ? It's been 2 hours now without any problems.
Someone riddle me this
AND....It feels faster than before and much more responsive.
Anyone ?
