Most BP6 boards have the problem that they supply power to one of the two CPU sockets more weakyy than the other. With time & the aging of capacitors & power regulation circuits, this gets worse.  At some point, one of the two goes too far south & just won't cut it anymore.  
When I upgraded all three of my BP6 systems to P-III/1100E, each one would not POST with the socket I chose first.  After switching to the better of the two, all three run rock solid now @110MHz FSB=>1.21GHz
