That would be an emphatic “NO” from me, I really don’t like them at all.

Maybe for a showroom, but not on the streets.

http://www.chavscum.co.uk/culture.html

"What every Chav wants as soon as they pass their driving test is a high performance sports car to impress their chav mates and impress the knickers off of chavettes! However all they can afford in reality is a 15 year old Vauxhall Nova or Ford Orion that is one MOT away from the scrap yard! The fact that the vehicle has one foot in its metaphorical mechanical grave will not stop them from modifying it to try and look like a high performance car. I use the term modifying loosely here, what they actually do is 'gyp-up' or 'barry-up' their motors. The first 'mod' a chav will make to their rust bucket is to acquire a set of alloy wheels. They are either purchased from the local fence or stolen by the chav themselves, from another chav! After fitting the alloy wheels what the chav has is an old banger with a flash set of wheels on it. The second 'mod' a chav will make to their pride and joy will be a cheap and nasty body kit. The purpose of this kit is to not-so-subtly change the appearance of a standard road going vehicle into one that looks like a rally or racing car; flared wheels arches, vented bonnet, etc! Once this is complete, the chav has something they can be proud of, essentially a car that is a sheep in wolves clothing! It's now time for the chav to add some finishing touches to give their car that full-on chavmobile look! The essentials are a fat chrome tailpipe on the cars exhaust system to make it sound like the exhaust is blowing, an illegal number plate with the most illegible font possible, blue neon window screen washer jet lights and blue neon under-car lighting! A chavmobile would not be a chavmobile without a stadium sound system to treat anyone within 300 yards of the their car to their musical taste! Not only does this system have to be loud, it has to have a bass sub-woofer system so big that passengers can loose control of their bowels and surrounding buildings get structural damage if a particularly deep bass note emanates from the speakers!"

well

im sorry i fall under that catagory!

i've got 2 12's and a 10" in the back of my car... did some fine tuning and got em right... now you can hear me a half a mile away... although i can't hear anything....

i like neons, snake eyes, and other cool car accessories.. .but im not a ricer... ricer's just add crap to their car to make it look good (all show no go, as we call it) i will also be doing some serious engine mods eventually (it's expensive)

Ricer! That's a new one on me. I like it.

Incidentally, I'm a bit ignorant on all this. What are neons exactly? Do you have a piccy?

Aha, that's what I thought it was.

Saw a car with them speeding round in circles on a housing estate the other day.

One of them Civic's is yours???????
If it is, I hate to be the barer of bad news, but ya, thats a ricer.
It's not "riced out", but it is a ricer.

I can only imagine what the stero must sound like, wish I had the room for one like that, but a regular cab pick-up dont leave a whole lot of room.

Neon on cars...uummm
kind of maks me thing of how i feel when my 14year old daughter wants to get her nose peirced and go to school with green spiked hair, black mini skirt and a heart tatoo on her leg. i just reminder her i love her for who she is...and to be confident that she is worthy of that love without having to draw attention to herself.

Neon for computer cases...uummm
totally different story. ok for others but not for me

i HATE sitting at a stop light listening to the beatles and someone 2 blocks away is drowning them out with lyrics that my mommy would STILL wash my mouth out if i repeated. please dont take offense but sound systems like mentioned above are great if you are DJing a party out in a pasture or something, bit it aint right for someone to "impose" their tunes on everyone unfortunate enough to be near.

slagathor,

yes BOTH of those civics are mine

and i have since taken those neons off.. i put em on.. they lasted for 2 days til i repped em off.. i got tired of it quick

as fasr as my speakers.. im sorry but i don't blare mine so loud that it drowns everyone else out... mine outside the car is not that loud.. i am going for SPL (sound integrity and clarity)

i don't see how some people can blare them so loud their ears start to bleed.. thats dangerous and causes hearing loss..

i like my civic.. i've left that green one i nthe front.. i kinda like it.. gives it a lil character.. something not everyone has.. it's unique and doesn't really show unless you are looking at it.. i've added fog lights that i usually only turn on in fog or when it's raining

so.. i'd like to revoke my "yes yes yes" vote

some people identify with their ride, while others  ... have you ever seen those pictures of people that look like their dogs??!!

jeez, my "work" car is a 12 year old Mazda 323. front end is red as i replaced the hood and fenders after i got it...back is white and the paint is peeling badly showing a gavaize looking base. 212 thousand miles on it and i usually cruise 80mph to work..about 50 miles from home (all interstate hwy)

sound integrity is the only reason(in my opinion) to waste good money on sound equipment that you could be wisely investing in value holding computers like ppga celerons.

kuun,
I thought how you arrived at your handle was inspiring.

Right then, who do you reckon has the loudest in-car stereo? 1, 2, or 3?

both those civics are the perfect example of a ricer. :bigroll: usually one will have neons and stickers and such first, then the guy will do some really expensive upgrade to the motor to make 90hp instead of 60; thinking this makes it fast, and it's no longer a ricer. but when it has neons, and a stock '80s ford ranger could still kick its ass in the motor dept. it's a ricer

What a fun post to read. People from different areas, different ages and different backgrounds discussing a topic that everybody has an opinion on in a civilised manner! Good stuff...

Kuun, FWIW, I got some experience in Honda Civics since I have raced them (illegal street racing) amongst other GTi's. My experience is mostly behind the wheel of the 130 horsepower models as well as the 160 hp CRX's. My grandmother also owned one of those 1.4 liter 90 hp jobs which was a good alrounder :)

When you say that you want to modify the engine, what is it that you want to do? I hope you realise that brakes, suspension (depending on the model you own) and especially the clutch will need to be worked on as well. My experience with Japanese hot hatches is that the clutch is almost always the weakest point when they are worked hard....

there are better ways to spend that money. you need to sell both hondas and the stereos on e-bay and get yourself something made in this decade
