Yeah, the golden era eh? Remember the name change poll, and even when the 2 groups merged?

/me wanders off in rose tinted glasses
Ah yes. I even remember back when I wasn't up at the top of the group in the #1 spot ;) heh

I haven't read much on this. But with the old project winding down and the new one starting up will there be a diffrent site, new teams, and stuff liek that?

I hope they get that rolling soon. As all of my old celeron 400mhz machine I have at work I hope to replace with at least 2ghz P4's. I orginaly had 20 400mhz machine but as parts would die I jsut had fewer machine ot use. I currently have 4 of them working. I think 20 2Ghz p4's should do some major damage to some wu's
If they go for that I might even get the big UPS I requested to make sure it all stays on! :)

We have gotten a few of those machines. With the hyper threading on it acts as 4 CPU's. I haven't had the change to get my gruby little hands on one for very long to do some really good seti testing tho. :(

4 on my pent262 and 2 on my GF's celeron 500 (hp POS)

With HT on a Dual 1.8 xeon with 2GB dual channel DDR does 16 per day doing four at once. I'm testing it with HT off and 2 wu's at once now.

The company I'm working at at the moment has, at last count, 60 or so brand new IBM x345 servers racked up but doing nothing. These are twin 2.4GHz Xeons with a couple of gig of DDR. I just worked out how many WUs a day we're talkin for that lot and I really wish I hadn't. What a waste

I might be able to blag one for a short while for, um, 'testing purposes' in which case we'll see what difference another 600Mhz makes.

Here we go gang...

http://www.siliconstrategies.com/story/OEG20030225S0031

A snip from the article:

..."Also in 2005, Sun will ship the Niagara, a 90-nm version of the same technology with multiple cores and threads. Sun executives suggested the chip could use as many as eight cores each running four simultaneous threads, effectively creating a 32-way SMP system on chip."...

And one from IBM:

Multi-CPU cores and multithreading is the way of the future. YES!
