multiple sessions

Post by kuun »

i've noticed... if you take a program like setihide like i have and use 3 cpu's ... you can do 3 in a very little amount of time more than you could if you were just doing 2

i get about 5.58% avg per hour (3) and about 5.93% per hour (2)

you do the math

And the 3 threads is with 1 cpu? I'm going to switch a few around today from 1 to 2 and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip.

Yes doing, in your case 3, wu's on all cpus is a little slower per instance but it over faster as you are doing two at the same time. I use SetiDriver on all my windows based machines. It handles multi-cpu systems well. With the dual hyperthreading xeon systems I have at the moment I am runnign 4 wu's at the same time. :D

ah ok when you said "like setihide like i have and use 3 cpu's " i figured you has some 3cpu beast ;)

I have played with running more then one instance per cpu before and I decided I wanted a little faster time instead of mpre wu's. If I was not making as many as I do now I am sure I would go for the more wu's option tho ;)

heheh if i was making as many as you i wouldn't really care :)

i was gettign 54hour wu's on average...

thats one almost every 3 days... now i pop out 3 a day almost 6 a day..

i go for more WU's with higher time than less with faster time..

all those wu's that took 54 hours (and a few that took 130 hours) really messed my avg up.. so i don't care much about time anymore :)

Right before they switched the client to do more processing I almost had broke my average to less then 10 hours. Now that I have to many faster machines and I am getting rid of my slower ones I am making more wu's and dropping my average :D

I would liek to finish seti with 100,000 wu's and a time less then 10 hours but I don't expect I woll get to 100,000 wu's so I am going for a sub 10 average

eh?

Well the seti project should be over before I get to 100,000. I don't know what they are going to do for the next version.

Just think of these magnitudes...

In the Universe, there are billions and billions of galaxies. Each galaxy has billions and billions of stars. The age of the Universe is somewhere between 4 to 5 billion years old. The data is being collected through a very, very small sector of the sky. The planet Earth, is virtually non-existent compared to rest of the Universe. Over 4 million SETI users have processed WU's using over one million of years of computer time. We have only found 150 candidates.

Guess what :?:
