Seagate Increases HDD Warranties To 5 Years

Seagate have announced that they will increase the warranties on all internal hard disk drives to 5 years.

NICE! I was just thinking about buying a new hard drive the other day...

Thanks InactiveX, this is very interesting news. Especially considering the obviuosly high failure rates of current IDE disks of all brands.

I'm only afraid that "every Seagate internal PC, notebook and enterprise hard drive shipped through its distribution and retail channels throughout the world" means that OEM drives are not covered by that warranty. If that's true, I hope they make it easy or at least possible to distinguish retail and OEM drives.
