Firmware Upgrade for IBM DeskStar HD

There is a link back to IBM about the upgrade and how to determine if your IBM DeskStar needs the upgrade. Another link documents the DeathStar syndrom. The upgrade, "...supposedly significantly enhances the reliability of these drives by moving the heads around when they idle."

Looks like the HPT366 may not be the cause of ALL hard drive problems when connected to this on-board controller.

Just lost a 22day uptime on my bp6 to update one of my drives, I nearly left it untill I had to reboot next, but then decided other wise because it would be sods law if I left it my drive would die in the next day or two.
