I have had a pair of BP6's going for 4 years & a third one for 1.5 years. When USB 2.0 first arrived, I was an early adopter , using "off-brand" affordable cards. I had nothing but trouble with these - and with a USB wireless LAN adapter on 2 systems, plus USB keyboard/mouse setups added to the pict...

MS is blaming Sun for having to do this now, because of the Sun lawsuit that MS lost forcing them to stop using the MS-tweaked java code they previously embeded in these older products. So, MS says: if we can't f___ with the java code - then we'll just retire the products, and to hell with everyone ...

I've had good results with the cheap ($30-40US) Dual P3 ACORP 6A815EPD board so far. Onboard Promise Fasttrak-Lite is great too. I could not get the Tualatins to run at 133MHz though, becasue I did not know about the Lin-Lin jumpers #8 & #9. Instead I'm using dual P-III/1100E/256/100 @115FSB. I want...

JohnA - you should weigh carefully your decision to choose the BP6 as your board for the Maxed-Out Dually project. I built (2) BP6 systems exactly (4) years ago & later built a 3rd one. My goal was to continue upgrading them as long as possible to let them keep up with new O/S demands etc. It sounds...

Having built & supported PC systems for nearly 15 years now, it is interesting to note how the fortunes & reputations of the various drive manufacturers has changed over time. I see lowest % fails on Maxtor recently. First it was Seagate all alone at the top. WD, Maxtor, Micropolis trying to get som...

Well, kuun, the price was good enough. I agree that the odds for decent quality in a drive are much better with SCSI - hopefully by at least the same factor as the higher price. Perhaps I should consider going with a 2+2 striped/mirrored RAID array if all the Maxtor stories art true. Only cost me $1...

What is the point of investing fresh new time in tired old surplus drves? If those clunkers are as old as they look, I hope they came free. I just got a new pair of Maxtor 80GB/7200/8MB drives for just over $50 Ea. - now they may not keep up with SCSI in a loaded multi-user/tasking senario, but they...

Best bang for the buck is to DUMP the BP6. Fast P-III CPUs cost too much & getting them to work on BP6 is too uncertain. Get a good brand Dual-Athlon board - if you can find one with RAID+ USB2 you will be way ahead. I used an ACORP 6A815EP Dual-P3 to replace my dead BP6 - has RAID - $40 This let me...

I have tried several & then dumped them all in favor of the Adaptec brand. It works & the bundled S/W is extremely useful - it scans all USB devices to present a graphic tree layout of what's connected. Clicking an item will give detaols about device. With Win-Xp make sure to get the latest USB driv...

ATI beats Nvidia for highest level gaming now. Code in games using DX9 PixelShader 2.0 have to be recompiled to run decently on the Geforce FX5900 Ultra. Nvidia clearly messed up on this one & benchmarking will not easily compare them accurately anymore at this level. I still prefer Nvidia's unified...

The PPGA Celeron-1/533MHz running @66MHz FSB is the fastest chip that Intel produced to match the ABIT CPU specs for the BP6. The best performance using overclocking of the FSB speed will result from the 366MHz version of this Celeron, as these CPUs can usually reach 100MHz FSB speed, giving a CPU c...
