I say NIX to the P-III(s) on the BP6. 1) The CPU's are way too expensive, better to invest in a Dual Xenon or Athlon-MP rig. 2) The maximum realistic FSB speed is only 110MHz 3) the price of RAM is low - so move on to DDR now 4) the results are too unpredictable Two of my (3) BP6 systems still run X...

Don't get that underperforming newegg HSF!
Go to Nexfan.com & order the CUD-725 Evercool unit. The picture is wrong - it has the WIDE clip that grabs all (3) prongs. I just used a pair of them on my MSI Dual P3 Tualatin board - $15Ea. They are pure copper anf have serious fans.

It's so sad that the P-III CPU prices remain so artificially high - especially the 512K cache ones. Instead of dropping with age and a newer generation appearing, they jute seem to be going up even.

Minimum $35 for one (unless prices have dropped on E-bay a lot since I last checked. The new one came to me via an E_Bay scam artist who listed it in the P-III section of the CPUs. I paid $100 for what should have been a P-III/1100E CPU. E-Bay & PayPal refused to do anything about blatant fraud & he...

ts4960,
I've got a couple Cele1100/128 CPUs I'm looking to unload - one brand new & one used 3mos. - tested good to 1210Mhz on an ABIT BP6.

Any offers >$35 will get serious consideration.

One other setting to consider is the one that controls what to do if power is interrupted - set this to boot up after power lost. Then you just have to cycle the power swith once to get a fresh boot.

InactiveX, do you know of any motherboard that will be a decent workstation (AGP 4/8X capable) that has Dual P-III capability & DDR RAM support??
LAN & RAID onboard is a nice plus. USB 2.0 I won't even dream about getting.

When my 1ST (of 3) BP6s died the Bad Capacitor death, I replaced it with an Acorp Dual-P3 board that was supposed to take Tualatin CPUs with Lin-Lin adapters. Well, it did - but would only clock detect them at the 100MHz initial FSB speed & OC-ing could barely even get me up to their native 133 ratr...

Yes! It's 7/23 for all mine too. There is a direct relationship between the number of boots a Windows PC does & how soon/often something bogus takes place - like detecting some new H/W in the system when nothing has been changed. Don't ya just love those phantom yellow spotted devices! Another kille...

kuun, the Zalman fan speed controllers ($4-5) could regulate speed for any fan over their 5-12volt range, as long as you don't exceed the max current ratting. Also, the fan's minimum startup voltage must not be undercut but the lowest setting, else you might have something overcooked.

forget that round underperforming ORB thing. Get the EverCool CUD 715 or CUD 725 100% copper HSF. Then chuck the bundled 70mm fans & replace with the ones from Y.S.Tech with no motor in the center - they have two models one quiet 4500RPM & one luder 5200RPM. The CUD-725 has the better wide clip. A p...

I like the blue LEDs, but I also like quiet high CFPM cooling & no LED fan I've located is much good in the quiet category. Y.S.Tech fans are good.
As for the ZPE - I was tryung to get rid of the "say no to 366 ,,," moniker.
I am not clear what stamped me with that.

By all means get a Promise ATA133 card and forget the Western Digital drives too.
The Maxtor 7200/8MB cache drives are so much quieter they are well worth the few dollard more!!

NekoGuy, I just spent a lot of time putting together a H/W replacement for my 1st dead (capacitors) BP6 M-B. What I got first was a $40 ACORP dual P-III board that could go to 133MHz FSB and beyond. I wanted to use dual 1.26GHz/512KB P-IIIs. But, with Lin-Lin CPU adapters (required) this board would...

Kylewo, you might consider going with a DX9 video card like the ABIT Siluro FX-5200/128MB or the FX-5600/256MB. I understand that with the DX9 drivers the CPU has lessof a limiting effect on the GPU performance. I'm very pleased with my ABIT SiluroFX-5200 in my BP6-P-III/1100E @110Mhz!!! This card o...

If you don't have the NEO adapter, then get the much cheaper one - I think it is called Lin-Lin brand or something like that. Info on this site somewhere. It is much better for attaching heatsink/fan combos, because it gives you a 2ND Socket370 that stacks on top of the existing one. With this setup...

Get the ABIT Siluro Geforce FX 5200 -128MB - @$80 it's the most bang for the $. No $50 card will even come close to 1/2 its performance! It does dual monitors as long as one is Digital. I'm not sure if you can get a digital -to-analog converter for dual-analog. If not, just get a cheap TNT2 PCI card...

Yes it should work just fine and overclock up to 110MHz FSB too. You may find that one of the two sockets boots more easily & runs more stable than the other. Make sure to get the heatsink attached properly with the clip able to handle the extra height. Be careful not to let the clip stretch give to...

Why give up on DUal CPU? The Dual Tualie 266FSB boards are still kicking! I'm burning in one right now. Granted the P-III Tualie CPUs with 512K cache are a bit pricey. Still, I went with an MSI board for $135 and (2) P-III/1.266GHz CPUs. I'm hoping to get 1.4+GHz out of them with the great 1MHz OC i...

You should check out the EverCool 715/725 series HSFs which stay small at the level of the caps & then expand to the 70mm fan size as they go higher up from the board.

There is a place on the microsoft website to download the "6-floppy disk boot file" for XP/XP-pro (different file for each OS). It was placed there grudgingly to accomodate the reality of life in the real world of Windows. Win-XP can crash in such a way that the bootup loading of NTFS gives BSOD & t...
