That's the anchor, yes. 3dmark is a graphics bench and as you can guess, it stresses the card the most. You'd be shocked how many people are running around with MX-level cards whining about how low their scores are. No offense to you or anyone else, but it just blows me away how people like to team ...

Provided you're using coppermine P3s, not coppermine celerons, nor tualatin P3s, nor tualatin celerons, you can run SMP with Neos. However, you will need to do a few mods. One trace on the neos themselves needs cutting, and then a pin or two on the actual bp6 sockets need to be rewired. Just find Yo...

Need more setup information, especially bios settings for MPS, ACPI, and PNP OS. As for disabling the HPT366, you can't. IDE2 is actually the second ATA33 controller, IDE1 is the first ATA33 controller, and by controller I mean channel with corresponding plug on motherboard. Disabling both saves IRQ...

For many things a 20mhz bus increase won't do much (i.e. MS Word, Access, a few newer games, etc.). However, when any app is dealing with a large dataset such as in video encoding, you want as fast a bus speed as possible. As simply as I can put it, x86 processor caches are designed for small, deskt...

Pull one stick out, leave the other in the first DIMM slot. If the bios detects 128MB of memory, 99.9% you have high density RAM. Older boards like the BP6 cannot fully use HD memory, so you'll need to find low density stuff if you want all 512MB to be useful (essentially they're only wired to see h...

Re: OCing produces DEAD DRIVE?
I think it is possible that your drive might be damaged by a high PCI-Bus speed, but I don´t believe it. Are your sure your BIOS has detected that drive correctly before? Try a standard BIOS or plug the drive into some other system. Maybe that´ll help you guess what´s going on... good luck! Best re...

^^^^ Very good advice. HPTs hate me, I hate them. Went back to the standard 440BX IDE controllers but even then I had issues after hacking the board for dual P3s. Dropped in an old Adaptec 2940U2W, a SCSI DVD and a 10k rpm drive and problems vanished. SCSI speeds up I/O significantly, so the machine...

Watercooling is mostly done to overclock the chips to severely high levels. The water holds much more heat than does air, so it's much more efficient at cooling processors, even down to below ambient-levels (in conjunction with a TEC). Anyway, there are two things that come to mind here. The first i...

The celeron 566 is a coppermine-based celeron. Those will not run in SMP mode no matter how much you hack things, as the SMP circuitry has been disabled on the die at the factory. The 566 also is in a FCPGA form factor and uses much less voltage. The BP6 can produce the right voltage levels, but sti...

If you guys can't get some combo of components working I'd suggest taking the board out of the case and running it while on top of a piece of cardboard. The BP6 is notorious for having the row of system switch/LED headers right above where many cases have a mounting bracket (either an extendor or me...

If you want to start over at this point do the following: 1 ) Use RU bios with HPT 1.25 2 ) make sure your bios is set to what it said in that post 3 ) do not preformat the drive with a win9x bootdisk 4 ) make sure the drive is on the HPT, if that's where you want it, and you're using an 80-conducto...

Change the boot order to something like A,SCSI,C, and set SCSI to mean SCSI, not the HPT366. Otherwise it won't look to PCI controllers for boot devices. Secondly, be warned that PCI3 shares an IRQ with the HPT controller. It may be advisable to move it up to PCI2, but only do so if there are major ...

It also depends on what OS you use. Win2k/XP are much better with sharing than is the 9x series. UNIX is usually pretty good, though I've never had good experiences with linux (solaris, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and NetBSD have all done fine, though). BeOS had some issues, but that was a long time ago. The ...

Depends what revision of the bp6 you have. Can't remember what mine is, and the file with the info is 600 miles away on a server that's offline. Anyway, I *think* it was a 1.1 that only had a 100uF cap at EC10. After replacing that one and resoldering the two pins on the sockets the thing was cherry...

What problem do their drivers give on SMP systems? I had SB Live! 4.1 value edition on WinXP Pro with SMP & working ok. Then again, I was only using the M-S XP drivers, not Creative's. I also had to retire my Creative DVD decoder card CT7610, because of no WinXP driver support. Constant BSODs until...
