I didn't know you needed a password to install the p3-coded BIOS?

2000 & XP have 255 virtual IRQs above 15, FYI. Your XP is using virtual IRQs by default unless you hit the F5 key and specifically chose "Standard PC" during installation. If your XP was installed with the ACPI HAL (which it is by default) then it's already fooling all your devices into thinking tha...

Ugh, the infamous Infinite Loop. I used to get it with my GeForce2 MX, until the fifth or sixth set of drivers I tried put an end to it. There were lots of different things I tried that reduced the frequency of it until the drivers fixed it. The first thing I'd look at, is to make sure that Passive ...

Glad to hear it's booting the way it should :) (even if it's a workaround)

I think you should call Ripley's Believe it or Not, though ;)

Everything I've read on the NT boot process says that what you went through shouldn't happen, heheh.

I like puzzles :P

Also, try renaming the boot.ini to something like boot.bak and see what happens. ntldr is supposed to then just boot off the first installation it finds in the c: drive.

First, I'd try System Restore. When my XP registry ate it, I booted into Windows98 (dual boot) and copied all the files from x:\windows\repair into x:\windows\system32. It let me boot and run XP, though I had to reinstall most of my software, again. (the registry files in the repair folder are creat...

That edit button just opens up the boot.ini in notepad, anyway :( It sounds like something is really gibbled in your boot process. I'd try this: Boot with a DOS disk and then copy the ntldr and ntdetect.com from your Win2K CD to your root directory (ntldr is supposed to read the boot options from bo...

Possibly another Hardware Profile in System Properties (Hardware tab)? Also check the Environmental variables to make sure they all point to the current D: installation. In XP, you can get to them in System Properties at the Advanced tab. Not sure if you can get there in W2K. If not, MS says to do t...

I've run multiple vid cards in the BP6 since I got it. The only time I had to init the PCI first was when an older PCI video card was in the mix. GeForce2 MX AGP + old S3 Virge - AGP 1st, didn't work. Had to init PCI 1st GeForce2 MX AGP + Voodoo3 2000 - AGP 1st, works fine GeForce2 MX AGP + Voodoo3 ...

ATI 8500LE (Retail)
3DFX Voodoo3 3500
Diamond 3D 2000 Pro (S3 Virge 325 chipset)

All work fine together in XP (as long as I initialize the Diamond first)
