I'm running Dual celeron 300A @ 495 (110MHz x 4.5) with all the RAM timings and settings tripped out (640MB RAM) using WPCredit and an original 32MB GeForce 256 SDR card and I find I can play RTCW very well at most low resolutions (everything up to and including 1024 x 768 - monitor only handles up ...

It's pretty funny really - the best overclocking CPUs (that people want to most) are the slowest ones because of the low multiplier, which is exactly why they're cheap. And, with overclocking the CPUs that achieve the most performace will be the ones that run the slowest (because they can run on a h...

I think I'm going to try and change the EC10 capacitors and do some more of Yoichiro's mods these holidays (I have the next six weeks off). I'm going to try and source some parts soon, and I'll borrow a proper soldering iron (not the $20 one I have at the moment, but one that has a temperature setti...

I have an IBM DTLA-305040 (40GB, 5400 rpm) ATA-100 hard disk and it ran on the HPT366 controller and I found that I got the same problems as other people in Windows - when you go to reboot the hard disk makes a scary "drive-heads crashing into platters" noise. BUT, under Linux I never had any of tha...

So far, it seems like just the Lin-lin on top of the Neo work to get the system to do anything at all. I was wondering whether those that have gotten it to work are using a Neo that has that trace on the bottom cut to get it to work in the BP6 in dual mode (for dual Coppermine)? So, if everybody tha...

Good to hear. I know what you mean - I bought a Duron 1.3 and an Epox 8KTA3+ motherboard and I ended up keeping it for about a month after which I decided I would put both the Duron & mobo and the BP6 mobo & CPUs up for sale and sold whichever one sold first. So, now I'm back with the BP6 and the bu...

More High Sandra Memory results
Using H.Oda's WPCredit utility for Windows, and setting the following options: * host bus fast data ready - register 52; * leadoff command timing - register 76; * DRAM idle timer set to 0 - register 78. Using SiSoft Sandra 2001te I got the highest memory results I've ever gotten so I thought I'd pos...

Try running xinit instead of startx, so that no window manager is started to find out if it is indeed gnome causing you problems. You could also try not using ATI drivers, but the straight svga ones that come with Linux out of the box - just run xf86config and follow the prompts. You should also com...

I've run Slackware 8.1 since it came out (up until I got 9.0) and I've never come across that problem. I don't run gnome but I doubt it's that. Are you using a kernel that came with Slackware or did you compile your own? If you are using a Slackware one, you should definitely compile your own 2.4.20...

Slackware 9.0 out!
Slackware 9.0 is out, and it's looking better than ever (you'd like to think so because it's a new version, but anyway) with greatly improved package handling capabilities - you can now make Slackware packages (Slackware tarballs) for any source package you download, as well as tools to convert RPMs...

I've run all of the following AGP cards successfully without any problems in my BP6: Matrox Millennium G400 32MB DualHead AGP; Leadtek Winfast GeForce 256 SDR (32MB); The BP6 AGP's voltage is derived from the 5V rail (as in a voltage divider circuit using the 5V to get 3.3V) as opposed to actually r...

Thanks Derek. I've got a huge full tower case with a 300W PSU that has places for three fans (two on back & one on front), but they just had circular patterns of drilled out holes where the fans were, and I read that this blocked about 40% of the airflow from the fan, so I cut them out leaving big r...

Excellent memory results in Sandra
After tweaking my 2 x 486 (108 x 4.5) setup using WPCredit and running the memory benchmark in SiSoft Sandra 2001te Professional I got the memory results shown below. Admittedly it's nothing to brag about when compared to DDR systems, but it runs rings around my dad's Via 694T memory results when hi...
