Based on my other Dual P-III boards with Promise ATA100 RAID Lite onboard, here is the deal: 1) they do not support "JBOD" mode (just-a-bunch-of drives) 2) they require a matching pair of drives jumpered to "single/master" 3) only one drive per channel & regular cables Note that a "drive select" cab...

the ones I've got so far were Maxtor 80GB/7200/8MB.
I believe they will be either Maxtor, WD, or Seagate 90%+ of the time.
If they were no-name drives, the manufacturer would not care about having a "white label". Top tier brands don't want it to be known that they can be had at these low prices.

You should only let this board go to someone who will try and get DUAL TUALATIN CPUs running with it on stacked PowerLeap/Lin-Lin adapters.
Anyone up to this challenge?? I've got the adapters, but the CPU not cheap enough yet for me.

The external case+USB2 interface electronics device you use to mount your IDE drive will determine what the size limit if the drive must be. The kits may have a firmware upgraade or S/W driver to install that lets you go with the newest high GB drives.

External Hdisk storage means USB 2.0 (or firewire) & you may want to think twice about what card you get for adding USB 2.0 to the BP6. After giving up on two generic brand USB 2.0 cards because of devices disappearing and not initializing, I finally got an Adaptec card. Far and away the best USB2.0...

Add Adaptec USB 2.0 card & remove (PCI?) modem - Switch to USB modem.
Buy $24 CoolMax CD-509-U2 external USB2.0 drive enclosure(s) 5.25'/3.5" & run the HPT366 device(s) on USB2.0
available at => Directron.com

If time=money the HPT366 will soon make you very poor.
