By your description of the problem, I’m lead to believe the problem is with the drive itself. If not, the first thing to ask is whether or not it’s connected to the ATA66 controller?

This is a common problem with BP6 motherboards; unfortunately no one has a solid explanation for it. Even mine does it! Though, I rarely shut it down.

The BlueOrb isn't a bad choice either. I'm running it as my NorthBridge cooler… Not only does it look cool; it's quite and does a good job!

I’ll try to post some pictures of it soon.

There is no direct correlation between the two, but having your hard drives on the HPT controller may limit your clock speed.
