If your system was perfectly stable at 66 Mhz and unstable at 67 Mhz FSB, this would be very unusual. I would guess your system is unstable even at 66 Mhz FSB, if it's at 67 Mhz. Did you run prime at 66 Mhz FSB? But I've heard there were PCI cards (especially sound cards, IIRC) that do not like othe...

Maybe I should've read the FAQ again: PCI 4 and 5 share the same IRQ and busmaster signal, so problems could have been expected. I still have a small issue with my setup: The maximum transfer rate and even the burst rate seem to be limited to ~60MB/s for the Cheetah 15k.3 (> 70MB/s max. rate accordi...

Adaptec 29160 didn't work in PCI5
Hi all, just in case someone has problems: I put an Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller in PCI 5, and it didn't work: The harddrive attached to it (Seagate Cheetah 15k.3 on the LVD segment) was not recognised by the controller BIOS. Thought the drive was defective, but took out my 2940AU from PCI4, put th...

it is doublesided and it has to be with 8 chips on each side :) not totally accurate. I have 3 sticks in my recently reassembeled bp6. 2 of them have chips on both sides but on has chips on only one side. All 3 are 128 meg and the system finds all 384 meg. 8 chips each side for 256 MB sticks. Btw.,...

I am surprised. I had word from someone who should know it that ATi are going to rework the whole OpenGL driver code and that they will probably need half a year or so to do that. Maybe they have just introduced some anisotropic filtering optimizations for OpenGL that were only used for DirectX in o...

Thanks InactiveX, this is very interesting news. Especially considering the obviuosly high failure rates of current IDE disks of all brands. I'm only afraid that "every Seagate internal PC, notebook and enterprise hard drive shipped through its distribution and retail channels throughout the world" ...

Wolfram: OK. It would be good to know if I would see the same issues in Linux. I have done some digging into the HPT366 and why it has issues with some drives and I have found that some of the issues are caused by the BIOS and some are caused by the kernel (and are not a failure of the chip itself)...

Looks like you're right: http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQypurrkur wrote: Also, Doom3 will also be available for Linux (and OS X) which means that it will also support OpenGL. That also means that if you are running Linux, nVidia is the way to go since it kicks ATi's ass when it comes to OpenGL.

I remembered this thread (and this one? http://www.bp6.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=1369&highlight=instability+sticks+ram ... same title, same date) and I've just tried to put a third 256MB-stick on my BP6. With the third stick, I had to set the CAS latency down to 3. OK, np. BUT I also kept losing my ...

Just read that dual core Opterons and Athlon64s should run in already existing boards, only a BIOS update would be required. So no dedicated memory for now. http://www.planet3dnow.de/vbulletin/showthread.php3?s=910bb117edbef0ae3a81518fe8a01b51&threadid=170830 (German) For the multithreading thing: W...

From my experience, the HPT366 does not like Seagate drives (7200.7, U6, 5400.1). But I had no trouble with any drive (up to 120GB) on the standard IDE to date. What type of problems have you run into with the Seagates and HPT366? I am a big Seagate shop although I haven't tested on of those on the...

I always thought the BIOS had to support 48bit LBA, regardless of the OS. But that's obviously wrong. In addition to the comments already given, Intel says you need BIOS support only if you use the Windows 9x OS series. Not needed for W2K/XP. From my experience, the HPT366 does not like Seagate driv...

Hyperthreading + dualcores = multithread sw = nice for BP6?
What do you think: Will the presence of hyperthreading and dual cores encourage software developers to write multithreaded software, from which our good old BP6 might benefit?

Acorp 6A815EPD: Does this i815 board support dual celerons?
Hi everyone, just saw an Acorp 6A815EPD on ebay Germany. Is this board (i815 EP) capable of running dual celerons (PPGA/Mendochino)? Can't find a manual on the Acorp website. Only found a review (http://www.digit-life.com/articles/i815epacorp6a815epd/) which does not explicitly say "no". Best regard...
