I've never had any luck with the SB Live on my BP6 under 2k or XP, and it always gave me IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (STOP 0x0A), so I'd blame that by instinct. but yeah almost certainly drivers, just take things out till it stops.

Personally I've never liked EAC that much, and only use it when I run in to problems. CDeX comes with the latest version of LAME and OggEnc, and does all the naming and cddb lookup (freedb).

The setting to use these days is --alt-preset standard, which is VBR (there's no reason to use VBR and no reason not to use LAME). As for hyperspace's question, an -alt-preset standard MP3 is almost indistinguishable from the CD original in terms of wave structure, let alone to the human ear. The Hy...

True, I was thinking of when we had a 500MHz P3 compared to my system - forgot about the FSB being 34MHz faster - it always had the slight edge in gaming.
The FSB has a surprising impact on performance, though in this case from the numbers they should be pretty similar.

(mmmm dual P4 3.06GHz...)

The two will of course have to run at the same speed, typically the lower of the two (don't think that was made clear here)

Personally I've not had a single problem using it, RU bios, never flashed, nor have I had to do any of the cap mods, but I seem to be the lucky minority, so maybe I'm not the best person to ask.

Well as an indicator I've just upgraded from a dual 533 (no oc) celeron system on my bp6 (which is now becoming a server) to an athlon XP2200+. In general desktop work (outlook, openoffice writer, opera, winamp2/foobar, mirc open) I've noticed no huge performance increase once the apps are running, ...

IIRC Western Digital have released a couple of SATA drives, but theyre somewhat expensive, and yeah Abit make adaptors to plug IDE drives in to a SATA controller (to bundle with their mobos with integrated SATA controlers no doubt)

Well if you fly to london, I'll be happy to demonstrate, quite a fee for something that costs about $1 to do yourself :P The only problem is the smell is quite repulsive, especially in a badly ventilated small lab. The only trouble is its very much hit and miss, the lower value electrolytic caps (ar...

IIRC the colourings of caps are representative of tollerence and (maybe?) voltage rating, BUT it depends on the manufacturer. I have a feeling the green/gold ones are somewhat higher quality than the more common blue/black ones (they look it to me). As said previously the most common sign of aging i...

The trick to getting ACPI enabled in install is to install the HPT366 drivers at the start of the win XP/2k setup (where it says "Press F6 if you want to install 3rd party SCSI/RAID drivers" or somesuch). This will then lead to it installing as an ACPI setup (if the BIOS is set up properly). As for ...

I don't know of any way off hand, I don't recall seeing any mention of it in the registry; googling doesn't appear to turn up many results so it may not even be possible.
Having said that, good luck in the registry and when you find out how be sure to pass it on ;).

Hrm, I would have thought it would work then, maybe Derek could offer more insight.
Possibly an easier option would be to buy a cheap old agp card - I know new GF2MXs are only £30, so you should be able to pick up something cheap and old for less on ebay.

To anyone running both an AGP and a PCI card, which do you initialize first? I've run in to problems with initialising AGP first with my Geforce and Banshee.

In the second screen of options there's the "Halt on" option. This sets which errors the bp6 will halt boot on, and you should be able to tell it to ignore the video card missing error here.

I've never had a big problem with the HPT366 controllers. The only trick I've found is for ACPI on win2k/xp is installing the drivers right at the start of the install from CD (press F6 to install drivers bit). Odd that some people have such trouble and some not. Interestingly the primary UDMA33 cha...
