"New" video card in my BP6: Radeon 9000 ViVo NFS Underground (I): playable (sort of) in 1024x768 (!), low detail. But still runs better on my Athlon64 / 6800 GT :D Painkiller: Playable, but permanent bullet time (like Max Payne) Return to Castle Wolfenstein: playable NFS6: now playable! UT2004: no w...

Thanks for the news, even if it might be bad
I don't think that means that Abit will go broke. To me, this sounds more like some heads are going to roll.
PS: What does "stock downgraded to requiring full delivery" mean anyway?

Apparently this isn't just the BP6. According to places like Anandtech and Tom's Hardware, Athlon XP/64 and P4 boards are doing it too, even big-name ones. Some memory brands are worse than others for this and it isn't always the big names who are better in this, either. This problem got so bad tha...

i bumped them up to 2.2 now... and it ran 2 instances of prime95 for about 40 hours before one of them gave a reading from temp file error. after that i called it stable enough for my useage. 2.2 may be a little high, but i dont really care because its no use if the system is unstable just so the c...

seems more stable now. its been running with just the 2 ram sticks for 7 days and 2 hours now. I've got 2 instances of prime95 runing on seperate cpus, and the one on cpu0 has been going without error for 36 hours now. the one using only cpu1 wont run for longer than about 6 hours before it gives a...

I was really happy that HL2 was released. However, I was worried about that Steam online activation. And it's worse than I thought. They say you have to go online once, to verify you have a legal copy/key. Ok with me, so far. Then you can activate an "Offline mode" that should allow you to play- off...

i keep getting the same error. anyway... the computer is still overclocked, but i tried running it at 66mhz for a few days and it still had just as many if not more problems. I think the next thing to try is removing the ram stick from slot 3, ive heard bad things about having 3 sticks of ram... an...

Re: P4
Also consider this, the P4 is almost always very overclockable. This gives it another real advantage. My system is running at 3.3GHZ! I seriously doubt you will ever get that kind of overclock out of the Athol MP. This isn't a knock against the MP. AMD has always binned their CPU's tighter then Int...

AFAIK the BIOS (or controller BIOS) only has to support large drives (=48bit LBA) if the OS does not. So, if the drive boots at all (which may or may not work) and you use Linux, Windows 2000 or XP, the OS should be able to use the full capacity. I'm still not sure about that fix you have to enable ...

Some very interesting info about the HPT366 and 48bit LBA. It's about the BE6II, but I'd guess it also applies to the HPT366 on the BP6. Taken from: http://www.motherboard-forum.com/abit/200GB_HDD_on_Abit_BE6II_524471.html (bottom of the page, bold accentuations by me) Date: 06 Jul 2004 07:49:03 Fro...

So really I should wait until I can afford something like a GeForce 6 to be able to get the maximum from a new graphics card because the rest of my system is pretty quick? You could. I'm not sure about the influence of the FSB on current P4 systems. For Athlon systems, 133 Mhz FSB is significantly ...

the 15 hours is fine with me, its when i was getting read from disk errors i was concerned. i think its the hd, and the cpus are just as stable at 558 as 400. I'll do something to keep the hd cooler, but i think i'll overclock it again. I guess the problem was just the hd getting hot, so it could b...

Currently bwosing through the installer documentation... one question: Does the installer let you create a boot floppy, in case you don't want to install grub to the MBR (like me)? Fedora Core 2 allowed to install grub into the linux root partition, but did not offer me to create a boot floppy. So I...

Nice! I love SCSI. Too bad they are too expensive and most often too loud. Yes. But this single platter drive's idle noise is quieter than the Samsung's. Seeks and vibrations would be louder, but I decoupled the drive on a piece of synthetic sponge (like I did on most of my other drives). And I got...

Seagate Cheetah 15k.3 too slow ;)
Hi guys, I recently upgraded my BP6 boot drive from a Samsung SV1203N (5400rpm, on the HPT366  ) to a Seagate Cheetah 15k.3 (15000 rpm, on an Adaptec 29160). Nice thing, so far :) I still have a small issue with my setup (already mentioned that here ): The maximum transfer rate and even the...

With a P4 3.1 Ghz I would go for a faster card, like the Radeon 9800 Pro or Geforce 5900. You should get a 5900 (SE,XT, they're all ok) for ~ 100 (damn... where's the pound symbol? British pounds, anyway?). You get them for 150-170 € here in Germany. I know you said this is your upper limit, but IMO...
