Well funny you should mention changing the overclock... I tried lowering the core voltages down from 2.2 volts to 2.1 and BOOM USB is working a bit more reliably. Usually playing Quake III for more than a while will kill all inputs but it didn't this time! I know it's only one test in a situation th...

purrkur, you put on a different chipset cooler; what is it? With all the USB trouble i'm having I wonder if I should get a better cooler... Also, with your unexplained core dumps - windows XP will frequently do similar things for me! After lots of trouble-free reboots it will occasionally throw seve...

Hovercraft!
Over the last week I've been working on a remote controlled hovercraft! Today I took it to a duck pond to test it out and boy does it work! It's 26 inches wide and made of a 1 inch thick styrofoam. When the lift fan turns on, it floats 4 inches off the ground! This is actually the 9th version, I've ...

It looks like the player is for sure 1.1, because after looking through all the documentation there is no mention of USB speeds at all. Which is odd because the item listing on Futureshop.ca (where i got it) claims 2.0 transfer rate... As for the computer's ports, I have the two built into the BP6 (...

USB 2.0 speed troubles.
I have an ALI USB 2.0 PCI card & Curtis MP3 Player which aren't running up to speed. Transferring files to and from the USB 2.0 MP3 player I calculated USB 1.1 speeds exactly. Does anyone know why it's running so slow? It should be noted that both the card + MP3 player are low end brand names. I hav...

Um, how exactly are you holding that giant Slot1 Celeron heatink + fan on the where a Greene came off? It took a whole lot of work a Dremel rotary tool. (i think i spelled it right.) I had to cut, sand and bend into the sides of the heatsink to make room for the little plastic screw-clip things i s...

Losing control...
I few weeks ago I replaced my Greenie BX chip cooler with a giant Slot1 Celeron heatink + fan because of overclocking. A few days passed and all was fine, but all of a sudden i started losing control of the PC. My USB keyboard + mouse weren't repsonding. So, i unplugged + plugged back in to my USB 2...

How long has your PC been on before you plug them in? For me, i frequently lose control of all my USB devices, both onboard and on my PCI USB 2.0 card. I'm heavily overclocked causing my chipset to overheat occasionally. When it does, instead of freezing or crashing, it just kills the USB. It doesn'...

Interesting! purrkur, my video card uses the RAGE 128GL GPU. So both our cards are basically the same. I agree that ATI's driver support is not great as i have serious problems with compatibilities among games. Sadly, ATI seems to have abandoned the RAGE series and there are no recent driver updates...

What's Wrong with my video card?
I've been having one isolated problem with my Rage Fury. In Grand theft auto: Vice City, after playing for a while i sometimes notice weird blue blobs on the textures. Because i think it is a heat issue, I've put a Pentium Heatsink onto the GPU and it's on as properly as it can be, because there are...

I've never attempted this, but i would presume that an A/c COULD make the components wet, however an air conditioner doesn't emit wet air, it just gets wet itself. therefore, if you put the conditioner outside of the case and make a duct system then i don;t see why that wouldn't work. Just an idea, ...

I figure this should go here becasue i don't want to make a whole new topic for this. sorry if it does bring up a long dead topic. I have a sort of wattmeter thing and i tried my BP6 on it. It's built onto an AC inverter for running 120VAC electronics off of car batteries and such. It has a wattage-...

I'm happy with my boot time. 14 seconds POST + HPT (counted until right after "Verifying DMI data" goes away and windows begins) 21 seconds later Windows XP is completely functioning with all startup programs loaded. Both total up to about 35 seconds to start up! PS - It was a lot more before I ran ...

Sorry, i really wasn't clear with my last post. KliK said: why did you pull out the PC133 which had CAS2@100MHz?! your PC100 definatelly doesn't have CAS2@100MHz!!! I didn't pull that ram out of my BP6, it was in another PC which doesn't use CAS-2. I replaced that RAM with generic PC100 because that...

Okay! Thanks for help. After some detective work with CPU-z I found my family PC had some PC133 with CAS2 @ 100MHZ! I pulled it out and replaced it with some generic PC100 i had laying around and everything's good! The family PC still runs the same and now mine has 384 megs of CAS-2 ram in 2 sticks ...

CAS2 Ram help
I recently found i have 256 megs of CAS-2 PC100 RAM. Is it significantly faster than CAS3 or even better at all? Some places said CAS2 is best for overclocking and 3d games, both of which i do most. However, i noticed ZERO difference on quake 3 between 384 megs of CAS3 compared to 256 megs of CAS2. ...

Okay, it sounds stupid, but I've just finished experimenting with double-sided tape. Just the plain stuff from Wal-Mart. I ran my test (which was a Pentium 233 MMX on some dead ASUS mobo) and thought things were looking good. After a few minutes I decided to pull off the heatsink to see how the tape...

Chipset (PCIset chip) Cooling
Has anyone else noticed their PCIset chip getting really hot? I was working my case off to find if anything needed cooling, and felt that chip was getting pretty hot. I'm wondering if a) it really does need cooling at all b) what would i use to keep a heatsink on? I cut down an ugly black pentium si...
