I've always wondered about that. Maybe in japan theres a secret supply of left handed motherboards so the cards go in the right way up! Is there a reason why AGP and some PCI cards are like this. It does'nt make sense frome a heat point of view.

Sounds like the HighPoint controllers holding you back. Ditch it and buy a Promise card. Also, have you done the EC10 mod, depending on which board rev. you've got.
