Not been running SP2 very long, no problems so far, internet connection firewall slightly improved, "pop-ups" blocked by default in Internet explorer. So mostly subtle changes, Happy New Year all.

The 36v capacitor will have a higher ESR (effective series resistance) than the lower voltage ones.... if your board is fried having changed just 2 components you are very unlucky....

Yes you are right, the taller capacitors will get in the way with the more exotic coolers, if you leave a bit more lead length on the capacitors, perhaps 1cm and sleeve them you should be able to tilt them out of the way. The BP6 is still in continuous use though I must admit I use the VP6 more, I w...

Pictures of BP6 with larger capacitors

Hi, I mentioned the replacement caps a while back, I think some people doubted I had done it. So far a pair of BP6s have been done and my VP6. http://www.g0fvt-hamradio.dsl.pipex.com/bp6caps.htm Stability is better than ever on all of these machines... sorry for the delay in posting the pics, couldn...

Hi, it was me that is using 4700uF capacitors, I did both my BP6 and VP6.... I am a radio engineer by trade and no stranger to the soldering iron! In reply to the last post... yes surge conditions on power up will be affected by higher value capacitors. Resonances at the switching frequencies involv...

I hope you find some benefit from having the second cpu, at least it amazes your friends... I know I will be contradicted but I think you are pushing your luck running at 600 with just 1.9v . My 466s at 80Mhz (560) would definitely keel over quickly at that low a voltage, try maybe 2.1v but keep an ...

I had a similar thing with my BP6 after a rebuild (capacitor failure) mine would load loads of flavours of Linux ok and ran them happily, absolutely refused to install XP Pro, NT 4 or 2000.... I have run all these OSes on the machine before so it was a bit puzzling. I pulled all the cards out and ge...

The BP6 will support 768Mb ram max, mine has just 512Mb, view the posts regarding the Highpoint disc controller and the failure of electrolytic capacitors before deciding whether the BP is for you. Mine has had the capacitors replaced and is now very stable. If you intend using scsi or a 3rd party c...

Hi, the 4700uF capacitors are a little larger in diameter than the original capacitors also a lot taller. I am using stock heatsink fans so no problem with clearance around sockets. I am afraid I guessed the diameter of the original caps as being 10mm when they were in fact 8mm, the relacements were...

just a small point... your 500s have a fixed multiplier of 7.5, altering the multiplier in bios will not change it.... btw 7.5 times 72 is 540Mhz.. about as far as you'd expect to get... a bit more extreme cooling may see you get a bit higher.... BIOS reports clockspeed from a look up table so somet...

Change EC10, my BP defied me despite ludicrous peltiers and watercooling, I got too lazy to pull the Mobo out to check EC10. An early contributor to BP6.com called Somethingburning had identified a problem with VTT stability. When my BP6 died recently with duff capacitor syndrome I changed them all,...

Attack of the jigsaw..psu ventillation

My BP6 suffered the usual dying capacitors syndrome so I took the opportunity to strip it all out and do some daft stuff to it... One easy mod was to cut a large round hole in the lower side of the psu (400w Macron) and to pop rivet a finger guard over it (from a 120mm fan) This seems to have been w...

Quick update... BP6 is running at 80Mhz fsb as I type this, running Winmx and playing a divx movie over the network. (These are 466s with oem type hsf) ... gutted I didn't do the capacitors while it was watercooled with peltiers! Will inevitably get tempted to push fsb up a wee bit more, will probab...

Sorry, I forgot to mention.. the Maplin caps are quite a lot bigger than the originals, I made a mistake with guessing the diameter! Just a quick note to say that it is still running happily, the VP6 has also benefited from having all the electrolytics changed.

Overclocking has improved marginally, very tempted to go for Dual P3s on the BP6.........

That link was more enlightening than the previous one I looked at.

My BP and VP are happy with their new caps, guess I should look around the house for the next things to fail!
