I've been using a modded RU BIOS without the HPT firmware for nearly a year, and it's fine. The HPT still shows up in device manager; there's no way possible to completely remove it AFAIK. The big advantage with the modded BIOS is the increase in bootup speed because the Highpoint BIOS screen doesn'...

I'm good today! built a dual Athlon 1900+, a 1.2GHz Duron, and found your .bin file on an old CD gathering dust 8)

Post your email address. I'll forward it to you.

I've been using the HPT-free BIOS with the BP6 logo for nearly a year now. The HPT still shows up in device manager but boot-ups are quicker.

There is one such BIOS on the BP6.com BIOS section, but I don't know if it's the one I've been using, so I cannot vouch for it.

I've run both, and the only useful feature for me is the better compatibility modes in XP.

Homer S./Hyperspace: I take it you haven't tried BeOS - wrings every last drop from SMP! It beats all the rest 8)

I use the modified RU BIOS with BP6 logo and no HPT BIOS built in.

It boots up quicker, but device manager still shows the HPT is present. AFAIK, there is no way to completely remove the HPT.

That's OK. I used Athlon MP chips so no reconnecting of bridges was needed.

You need to start QuakeIII in realtime for it to SMP properly.

In your QuakeIII folder, make a new txt document and paste in:

start /realtime /max quake3.exe +set r_smp 1

Then rename the txt file to quake3.bat, and run it.

I've never noticed any difference with SMP enabled, BTW.

I've always used Promise controllers, and currently have an UltraATA/100 TX2 card in my BP6 with two disk drives hanging off it.

I would recommend them to all BP6 users, especially if you want to ditch that POS HPT3666 controller.

DJ_Spray: I've just built one of those for an animator, only he's got 1900+s in his. It's a really good board. Might try BeOS on it - that would fly, heheheh.... 8)

I wouldn't mind one for myself, but the BP6 with 500MHz Celerons and a TNT2U still does everything I want.

I'm still booting between WindowsXP and my proper OS, BeOS 8) It really flies on SMP computers, and has a great BP6 monitoring app and drivers for the HPT366 (though I never use that damned interface). http://bebits.com/app/825 http://bebits.com/app/1261 OpenBeOS looks like it'll be really good when...

nobbe: If your RAM is not showing up at all in one slot, it's unlikely to be because it's hi-density, because that usually shows up as half the amount of RAM it should, not none at all. Some people have run into trouble filling all three memory slots in the way you describe. When I fitted 3*256M sti...

Also, the ones doing over 600MHz are nearly always running in single, not SMP. As far as I know, the only person to get over 110MHz FSB on a dual BP6 was Holodeck2 with his watercooled, peltier-chilled celerons at 733MHz (133MHz FSB). Whoooaahhh!!!

I think you're very lucky! :)

Most likely it was dirt on one of the contacts between the RAM module and slot, as DD suggested. Pulling the RAM sticks several times cleaned the contacts enough for it to work.

A good CPU test is to run two instances of the commandline version of SETI@home. Put the program in two different folders and run them. Both your CPUs will be at 100% in task manager.

(Funnily enough, that's just what I'm doing now to see how cool my new case is.)

1.47 VTT sounds fine.
