Good idea, hyperspace! Unfortunately the boot.ini on C: is the only one on the whole drive :( (C, D and E: are all on one physical disk).

Second boot option, but no entry for that in boot.ini

Hi all, I have a Win2K system I´ve been messing around with quite a lot. So I can´t remember when this phenomenon occured, but I´d like to get rid of it: On booting I am shown 2 boot options for a W2K installation. But I only have one! The first entry in the list is my W2K system on logical drive D:...

Got an answer at 2cpu.com:

Had forgotten software coolers only make sense under Win9x. Note that poster "jeh" says CPUIdle lowers temps even under Win2K, but has bad side effects.

I´m afraid even avoiding Windows Update doesn´t guarantee anything ;)

But concerning the wuauclt.exe... if´ve used Windows Update several times since I removed that file, and it hasn´t been restored yet.

Software Cooler for W2K SMP?

Hi,

does anyone know a cooling program like Rain that works under W2K in SMP mode?

Best regards,

All of them, IIRC. Definitely some caps around the CPUs, plus the ones in the middle between the "left" CPU (close to the outside connectors) and the expansion slots.

High chipset temps obviously indicated dying caps on my BP6

I just wanted to tell you that I replaced my BP6 (with another one, of course :D ) after I noticed that many caps were bulging. It still worked flawlessly, the only indicator that something was wrong were obviously very high chipset temperatures. I first thought MBM5 had gone crazy (90°C? ) ...

Could be that motherboard monitor or whatever you are using is reading the VTT voltage in core 1 instead of the actual core voltage. Mine does that, but I haven't fiddled with it yet to get the actual core voltage. Doesn't really bother me though because VTT is more important. Same here. 1,5 V woul...

Hi Derek, I´m just browsing the Board for the first time with Opera 7. Everything´s fine, except the left column on the Main Index is far too wide (about 1/3 of the screen). But since Opera still has rendering problems with a few other sites, I wouldn´t care much about that if I were you;) Opera: Ve...

ISA sound problems? Check "delayed transaction".

It worked for me: http://www.bp6.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=916

Would be interested if it happens only when you´re using two ISA cards, not just one.

"Delayed Transaction" solves ISA sound card probs

Hi everyone, I just tried the BX Tune utility from the download section. It lets you change chipset settings on-the-fly. For some time I´ve had problems when playing mp3s while surfing. While a page is loading, sound is corrupted. I use two ISA cards: An NE2000 NIC for surfing and a Soundblaster AWE...

80 FSB overclocks the PCI bus from standard 33 Mhz to 40 Mhz. If your system runs fine, ok. I´m not sure about long-term damage. Some people claim it´s possible, some deny it. However, you should know that overclocking the PCI bus on the BP6 also overclocks your AGP slot and your IDE interface. You ...

I´ve read the now. There has been a rumour around for three days or so that Ati would prevent newer revisions of the 9700 boards or chipset from being modded. But... why should they? In fact, many modded 9500 boards seem to produce the check-pattern error because the disabled parts on these boards a...

Radeon 9500 Pro -> 9700 Pro mod dangerous

Just wanted to inform those who think about modding their Radeon 9500 Pro that 1. it is possible in Software(!) with the new edition of RivaTuner and 2. the hardware mod is dangerous, because both mods often do not work: http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/poll.php?s=&action=showresults&pollid=4...

...at least this German article says so (google translation at the bottom, sorry I´m too lazy) http://www.winhelpline.info/news/index.php?show=singlenews&id=6529 ...though here http://www.via.com.tw/en/viac3/c3.jsp they only speak of smp support in future versions. I doubt that. While I would always agree that the HPT366 is not exactly the most reliable and uncomplicated onboard component ever, I think it is not responsible for mouse lockups, acid rain or smelly feet.

When do these lockups occur?

Yes, the Kyro2 is slow today. But my Duron 900 / 512 MB SDRAM / Geforce 2 MX runs UT2003 much better (on lower details + in 16bit). And the GF2MX is slower in UT2003 than the Kyro2.

Headlines can be cut off

One _little_ issue I noticed: When you post a new topic, you can easily type a headline that is longer than allowed, so the rest is cut off.

Keep up the great work, I really like this board :D
