Many thanks for the replies.

I figured that it may have come time for me to upgrade the computer but was hoping to put it off for a little while longer. Suppose i better start looking at new Mobo/CPU combinations.

I could always turn the BP6 over to SETI crunching.

Video Card for BP6

I have read through a number of the posts on this board and I can't find a definative answer. So being lazy I ask it here. What is a good Video Card upgrade for the BP6, at the moment I am using an old Geforce 2 with 64Mb. I don't want to spend a fortune just get something that would help speed thin...

Sounds very much like the dead board I have at home. It turned out after a lot of close inspection that one of the components on the board was damaged. Now it is a nice display item in my computer room.

I have always had to switch off my BP6 manually. The guy who helped me put it together was registered with Microsoft and he rang them to be told Win 2k running SMP will not support automatic shutdown. If this is wrong someone please tell me as I would love to know how to fix it. Lycaon the painted one

You might want to apply it using a cotton bud. :!: If that is too thick get a toothpick and take a sharp knife to split the end about 1/4" then either use tissue paper (aka toilet roll) or cotton (from a cotton ball). trap the end of the tissue/cotton in the split and wrap a small amount around the ...

It does not look good  I had a really good look over the board last night and found that one of the small flat components near the PCI slot at the edge of the board has been damaged. :( It has 8 soldered connections and it looks like a PCI card has hit it and chipped off the corner of the compo...

Well I have tried all combination of one CPU and one RAM stick and absolutely nothing. I know the processor and ram works as I tried it in another machine.

Am I right in saying it is dead?

OK here is it so far, with minimal editing. 8) Once upon a time there was a BP6 restaurant wasn’t there? One wasn’t enough thermal couplers to go on The DareDevil's supercooled pocket. Meanwhile, back in onelegdis's Bat Cave there wasn't time for an enema so his pocket just fell (!) open and out cam...

That is the aim, but at the moment I am just trying to get it up and running. Problem is I don't know what abuse it has suffered in the hands of it's previous owner.

Dead Board

Help! I am stumped, but that does not take a lot of doing. I have aquired a second hand BP6 with 2 x 433 cele processors. After installing it in a new 300W case with known working 256MB PC133 and known working PCI matrox vid card. I got it to boot but kept coming up with CPU unworkable message chang...
