Re: Happy New Year 2018

Not sure how many lurkers there still are, I have a snoop from time to time, we are well on the way to another new year. Always enjoyed this message board and my BP6 adventures.

Likewise Derek, I still have 3 BP6s but they have been resting for a long time. None of the modern hardware has the sort of following these did...

Re: Dual PIII & PCI slots 3.3V power & fans speed mods

Wow, how time flies, my BP6s are still in storage, 3 in total, and my VP6. Not had the same fun with computers since these. Will definitely do some ressurecting, the BP6 was positively green power consumption compared to later machines. Great to see that this site is still alive, maybe we'll get a f...

Hi all, wow it is good to see the board is still not dead. I still have a soft spot for my old BP6... had one running OpenBsd until very recently. Seems computing has become pretty sterile since those fun times.... maybe the old BP6s need to be pressed back into service for a blast from the past.....

And more Apple updates

I was repairing a friends iBook G4, about a week ago, installed Leopard onto the new HDD, then about 500Mb of updates, this was a Sunday night. Delivered it within 48hrs and another 136Mb of updates, and Mac people have the front to moan about Windows.... Anyway my friends little "Barbie" computer i...

I still run a BP6 as an OpenBsd server, has been running 24/7 for a lot of years now. It would be great to have another motherboard with the same Geek value but modern. My modded VP6 is still in daily use and sadly now I find myself looking at a Dell Quad core... I guess all good things come to an e...

Oh yes it is...

Hi, it is a hub/gear puller, some do have sliders as you mentioned in order to shock things apart, like a slide hammer.

3 legged ones are fairly common place, somewhere I do have one very similar to the one used here.... I will try to attach an image of one for reference....

I have not benchmarked my Highpoint on Linux... but the later posts here may explain something I have experienced.... IE that I have been running a pair of 250Gb drives on my Highpoint controller (OpenBsd) for some years and not seen any real problems even when filled beyond 200Gb each.... mind you ...

Hi all.... (yes i have run Vista on a BP6) My server BP6 has a small boot drive and controversially 2 250Gb drives hanging off the Highpoint, I filled both drives to over 200Gb with no apparent problems however on transferring the data off of it I found 2 DIVX movies would simply not shift... presum...

hi again

Hi again, good to see you are all still around! On dial-up this week, stupid ISP cancelled my DSL for my new house and kept it going for the old one! I bought a sad little laptop just before Xmas, seems crazy that it is faster than any of my "proper" pcs... All my BP6s are still working, though this...

Capacitors

I know this thread has not moved for ages, however my BP6s are still running strong with their replacement capacitors. I know a lot of disbelievers slated me for using such relatively large value capacitors. FWIW ALL of the 1000uF and 1500uF caps were replaced with 4700uF, as was the infamous EC10. ...

I recently moved house, suddenly realised how much junk I had accumulated... My old BP6s are running OpenBsd and XP pro respectively. I put Vista RC1 on the G/Fs laptop and on an old Athlon XP2400+ The Athlon has 512Mb of ram and the laptop 1Gb and some sort of AMD 3000+ cpu. From what I can observe many of the best features of Vista are not available on the 32bit version. T...

Hi, I know this thread has been stuck a long time know, just to add that I still have a modified BP6 in 24/7 operation. A leisurely 75Mhz FSB seems to help the Highpoint controller with it's well known timing issues, machine is running OpenBsd and has not crashed in maybe 2 years. www.lisney.org.uk ...

BP6 and Vista

I will let you know, only big issue I have seen with RC1 is "windows scaling" I believe packets can be too long for some routers hence no internet!

Vista RC1

Running Vista RC1 on just a laptop at the moment, a huge improvement over Beta 2. Have Beta 2 on a 2400+ Athlon and not very impressed with it, RC1 is massively improved. I have a horrible feeling that Vista will be very expensive, we will see. Tempted to try RC1 on a spare BP6 out of curiosity. Inc...

Hi, my BP6s are too busy doing useful stuff to spare them for Vista, I have an Athlon XP2000+ with 512Mb ram running 32 bit Vista, so far I am not very impressed.... maybe I am biased by having run XP for so long. A friend also tried Vista on a 2.8Ghz laptop with 1Gb of ram, this machine runs XP wel...

Hi, here is a link to a site which includes the PCI bus pin out, not sure why some cards work and some don't, maybe they do not use the same supply pin on the edge connector.... http://www.technick.net/public/code/cp_dpage.php?aiocp_dp=pinconbus_pci As i said before mine works fine using Dlink wirel...
