Derek, I could do with 2 of those. How do you intend to deal with shipment and payments?
Cheers,

Hmmm. I gotta go with BCN there and say that I think this might have to do with other things than your installation of Solaris. Alternatively I would disconnect everything (harddrives and floppy), remove all cards except graphics adapter, and all memory sticks except one and then try to boot the mac...

Fan Speed readout
Hi all, I am working on a sensors.conf file that will be specific to the BP6 running a Linux kernel >=2.6.5 and lm-sensors >=2.8.6. The file will only include information specific to the BP6 so it will be readable and it will also include comments if you want to add personal touches. There is one is...

letseehere... You can only mount the unit in one way in the box. What I did (without removing the board from the chassi) was to mount the left side first and then I used a screwdriver to force it down the other side. On on of the heatsinks I actually bent the mounting part a bit because I was having...

Thanks for your answer Hyperspace, that was just my line of thinking. The specifications I have seen for the HPT have been pretty strict: The harddrive should be using the same interface standards (in terms of speed) and that nothing except harddrives should be used. Who knows, it may be sensitive t...

BCN: If you want to mirror those drives then you have to find two 160GB drives for the mirror to work! What OS are you using? I guess mirroring depends on your software (if you are doing software mirroring instead of hardware - but I guess that is the case for you). I assume that if you are running ...

Dave_rave: Fedora is pretty much a continuation of Red Hat's "free" setup. Fedora has recently released "Core 2" for download and that is supported just like the old Red Hat releases. The good thing about Fedora is that there is a community that is being built around it so there are many Fedora spec...

davd_bob: Good summary! Dave rave: RAID 5 is only better than RAID 0 in that it is redundant. It is not possible to compare RAID 5 to RAID 1 because RAID 1 is mirroring only. RAID 0 is faster than RAID 5 in any given situation since RAID 5 is basically RAID 0 with added overhead (see davd_bob's post...

Hmmm. There is this one component that does cause instability in many systems and I am surprised that it isn't mentioned more here in these forums. That component is the power supply. If your voltages are swinging wildly then that will be a problem (very often caused by bad power supplies). Also mak...

Good stuff! It is always fun to hear of other peoples experiences! I guess an update on my setup is in order.... After running stable at 600MHz for about 3 days (without any stress testing) the BP6 finally locked up hard while I was working on it. At that time I simply decided to drop the FSB back t...

Davd_bob: Yeah, I am also a David :) Whats up with all those Davids owning a BP6? I suggest a thread called "BP6 owners called David" or something like that :-) I am going to add a drive to the HPT next time I open up my box. I got a 12 mb drive just lying around so it will be fun to test it out und...

I think it winds down in effectuality in effect, it doesn't work properly. From what I have seen, there is documentation about how to use it is pretty strict. Is it possible that problems have occured when not following those guidelines (i.e. incorrect usage)? Hmmm. I think I should try this myself...

Just a quick question to all posting: I have read on several occasions how the HPT controller isn't worth working with, but is that true under Linux as well? I can only remember Windows people complaining of how things do not work well with it but I can't remember anybody complaining about it under ...

Well, if the capacitor is "only" leaking then I am pretty sure that you could get the board to post. However, if the damage is so bad that the cap is shorted? That means you probably got a high current going right through it, accessing components that the cap is supposed to protect. That could mean ...

Interesting! I haven't played with BeOS in quite a while now. I sort of lost track of what was going on with it because IIRC, there were several different efforts being made to continue the effort after it disappeared. I figured that if they couldn't unite on a single effort then it probably wouldn'...
