I'm running Slackware 8.1 on my BP6 (soon to be Slackware 9 - just saw that it was release about a week ago) and all has been running fine. The HPT366 code in the latest 2.4.x kernels (currently using 2.4.20 but considering going back to the 2.5.x development - the bleeding edge :D currently at 2.5....

Are nVidia Linux drivers SMP?
I was just wondering if anybody knew if nVidia's Linux drivers were multi-threaded so that they support SMP? Actually, along those same lines, are nVidia's Windows drivers multi-threaded too?
Thanks in advance,

Missing BIOS
I was running a version of RU128 that also had the Symbios Logic SCSI BIOS in there too, so that upon bootup I would first get the HPT 1.28 BIOS showing up and then the SCSI BIOS if "EXT means" was set to ATA/66 in the BIOS, but after I added an ATA/100 controller (with the Si 0649 chipset), the BIO...

Could be that motherboard monitor or whatever you are using is reading the VTT voltage in core 1 instead of the actual core voltage. Mine does that, but I haven't fiddled with it yet to get the actual core voltage. Doesn't really bother me though because VTT is more important. Check the voltages in ...

Yeah, the butter smooth response of an SMP system is very nice (assuming you don't run too many of the newer games, eg: Doom III, that require more pixel pushing power on the CPUs' end). It's so nice to be able to have oodles of Netscape windows open while burning a CD or compiling an app, all of co...

Yeah, sucking air through the heatsink is unusual compared to what most HSFs do, but I figured because my system temp was higher than the CPUs (a little odd I know) I shouldn't be blowing the hot air from the CPUs right onto the motherboard (and onto the voltage regulators that get unstable at hot t...

Sorry about the late reply, but I've been overseas for the last week. When the got the two 300A, I bought them guaranteed to do 450 so that was no problem at stock voltage and running at that speed, the temps are about 33, 34, 36 (CPU0, CPU1, SYS) under full load. But, they came with fairly decent h...

You should try downloading WinCPUID By H.Oda and if there are two CPUs recognised by Windows you should be able to switch between the two in the top right hand corner. Go to the frontpage of bp6.com to find the link to where to download it. Or better yet, right click on My Computer and go to Device ...

Yeah, nearly all the celerons running at 558 or 600 are only single. One day soon I'll have to borrow a friend's slot 1 motherboard and see how fast the two CPUs can go in single mode - but time is always against us -> far too much to do and too little time to do it in. It would be so cool to get ho...

Did you try any of Yoichiro's BP6 mods for stability? I think his one for boosting the Vio voltage would be a good idea because you're watercooling the chipset and most of the newer (now old) BX motherboards defaulted to having Vio at 3.5v instead of 3.37 anyway. Or you could try his "Ultimate VTT s...

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'll try to overclock further when I have more time -> things have gotten pretty hectic at Uni at the moment. I'll agree that there's definitely a lot more to think about, and a lot more to try. Hopefully one day 558 will become a reality... I'll post back when I have...

APM is almost completely dissabled on systems with more than one CPU - it's just something that the Linux kernel does. I guess because if you've got more than once CPU, your system would be classified as at least a small server, and you wouldn't need it on a server. I don't think there is a way to g...

Sure, it can be done with any SCSI card as long as you can find a downloadable BIOS firmware somewhere to extract the code from. Then, just use cbrom to add the firmware to the current RU (whichever flavour you prefer) BIOS, but you have to make sure it's not too big for the BIOS ROM to hold - The R...

Some of the cheaper SCSI cards didn't have the firmware built on the SCSI card because they just assumed that the user would be using the SCSI card with one of their own motherboards, that had the SCSI firmware already embedded in the system BIOS. So this is essentially a BIOS for all those cards ou...

RU128 BIOS with Symbios Logic / NCR SCSI BIOS
A little while ago, I modded the RU128 BIOS and added the SCSI BIOS for the SYM53C810 and SYM53C860 SCSI chipsets. If anybody would like a copy, they can download it from: http://www.geocities.com/rdtlgi/bp6_bios.html The BIOS works fine for me, so it should work great for everybody else as well. I ...

I guess I am pretty lucky to get to 495 dual, but them posting at 558 (and nothing else) to me suggests that they have more room to run faster and that it's the motherboard that's stopping them. Yeah, the overclockers.com database does suggest a pattern - that to get over 600 for 300A CPUs, one need...

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try it without any other cards in there at the same time (and anything else I can think of as well). I just got my hard disk back for IBM (it crapped out on me, so I sent it back to Singapore), and loaded Slackware 8.1 and Win XP, so now I can run some benchmarks and...

Dual 300A at 558
After modding my case by taking out the fan grills and just having large circular holes cut out where there used to be lots of useless little holes, I thought I'd give 558 another try: So, I set the voltage to 2.3V, and the FSB to 124 (1/4) with AGP at 2/3 (for an AGP bus at about 83), fully expecti...

Did you try the AGP mod?
It could be that the video card isn't getting enough juice if it keeps on hanging, that's especially the case with the GeForce2 cards, and it's been said that the BP6 isn't so good at supplying enough voltage to the AGP slot. Look at this page for more info: http://www.open.org/~cowanm/bp6/agpmod.ht...
