In BP6 BIOS WOL is called resume by LAN. This might suggest that LAN card cannot start the computer from poweroff, only resume from standby.

I'm going to change the caps when I have courage to start soldering the board. That will be quite soon, propably in a week or two. Until then I'm going to leave the board alone.

I have used a 3com 509 combo card on win 2000. It can be either plug'n'pray or you can set the IRQ and memory address manually. All settings can be done with a prog from 3com website.

Usually when you leave your case open the hot air just circulates around and doesn't move very effeciently. Computer cases have been designed to work as windtunnels when closed.
